longthenight is a side project by multi-instrumentalist Derrick Stembridge, best known for his electro tracks on Drifting in Silence. longthenight brings a new atmosphere to his already thought-provoking sound, combining timeless guitar riffs and acoustic piano with a refined yet moving tone. Alternating between darkly brooding and subtly light qualities, the songs deliver strong imagery and explore new levels of music and art.

Ambience-based Drifting in Silence renews the band’s commitment to groove with the 2009 release, Facewithin.

Continuing the composition arc begun with 2007’s Chameleon, Facewithin presents DiS’ trademark layered sound textures, powered by hard-edged, funk-flavored driving industrial dance rhythms.

Ladderdown weaves a tight web from beatless and atmospheric ambiences which - unlike other artists’ deliberately combined ambient sound layers - unveil obvious structures and a clear sound design. drifting in silence creates the space needed for associations and harmonic melodies, somewhere in between of brian eno and the highly appreciated geir “biosphere” jenssen. At first ladderdown makes you feel safe. but just when you think you have found your key to this release, stembridge surprises with new facets like skillfully integrated electro-influences and groovy beats showing their sharp teeth. The listener is moved up and down in waves while he watches all parts of the puzzle combine to a whole: an extremely multi-layered and versatile ambient release which just makes you want more.

chameleon [CD-SINGLE],takes driftings previously-explored territory one step further, adding edgy vocal textures and punchy rhythms that carry the listener on a tour de force of aural experience.

Fallto has been described as shoegaze meets dancing shoes. Listeners familiar with previous work from Drifting In Silence will recognize the trademark prismatic tonalities and looping rhythms suspended in an ambient mix. Fallto brings these previous threads together, and makes its own statement with edgy timbres and hard driving beats that punch through their atmospheric setting in unexpected ways. If Truth and Ladderdown were explorations in clouds and shadows, Fallto is clouds and shadows moving at the speed of an express train.

Featuring odd meters and dense beats, the song screams with guitars, edgy vocals and high-caliber breaks for rivetheads and synth-enthusiasts to devour.
